4SEAsons Swim Code of Safety

At all times we swim for fun, for exercise, for experience and for a challenge. It is important to take all steps necessary to ensure your own safety and that of those around you. The 4SEAsons Swim Code of Safety outlines the main ways we can achieve this.

  • Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the training session.

  • Listen to the coaches’ briefing and instructions during the training session.

  • Clarify any instructions that you do not understand before proceeding.

  • Swim to your ability – avoid following more experienced swimmers into conditions that are not suitable for your skills and experience level.

  • Swim with a buddy – find someone to be your buddy for the session. Look out for them as we swim. For new members, there is always someone willing to be your swim buddy.

  • Raise Your hand – If you find yourself unable to swim back to shore, raise your hand and signal for help from the coach, other swimmers or Life Savers on patrol. Remain calm, help will arrive.

  • Do not swim if you have an illness that is likely to affect your ability to exercise.

  • Do not swim if you are affected by alcohol – this includes hangovers!

  • If you leave early – If you need to leave a training session early, please notify the coach or a participant before leaving.
